How Multiple Interests Boost your Brand Identity

Written by: Roberta Vommaro

In this fast-paced and interconnected era, the notion of specialization and niching-down has been challenged by a new breed of high-achievers - the Renaissance types. I’m talking about multi-talented individuals with a myriad of interests, skills, and passions. On this blog I explore how being multi-passionate is exactly what can help you stand-out in the market.

1.Don’t follow the trend - create a trend

Being a Renaissance High-Achiever is a superpower that sets you apart. When others are trying to fit into rigid molds, you're breaking free and creating your own path.

When I quit law to teach yoga and meditation, no one in my network was doing this. And I mean no one. Being a trailblazer can be lonely, but soon you will find, people will follow your steps. I was the first (and only) one in my large network comprised of other lawyers and high-achievers to even practice yoga - let alone teach it. But that also meant I was the go-to-person for anyone who was curious to try yoga or meditation.

My career shift also inspired countless friends and clients to pursue a more meaningful career too. Later I was even able to offer a TEDx talk touching on this subject.

Not fitting into a predetermined mold is what allows you to quite literally stand out from the crowd.

2. Everyone has a Personal Brand

Whether you run a business, have a career or specialty, the truth is, unless you live under a rock, you have a personal brand. Just check your social media accounts. And why does it matter? For one, recruiters, companies, your potential clients, and even people who are interested in dating you, will most definitely check your profile. When done half haphazardly, this profile (I call it “projection) can potentially hurt you.

And it’s not just about social media - it’s also the way you act, behave, dress, speak, essentially project your thoughts, concepts and ideas into the world. This is all part of your personal brand - and building it intentionally can not only create a sense of familiarity and trust with your audience, but also establish reputation, goodwill and ultimately, success. My friend, client, and spectacular business owner Cassandra Vantriet once shared how she connects with a brand once she gets to see who is the face behind it - the owner, CEO, or founder. People connect with individuals more readily than they do with faceless entities.

For Renaissance high-achievers, the concept of a personal brand becomes even more crucial. With our diverse range of skills and offerings, it's easy for our endeavors to appear scattered or unrelated. However, through building an authentic personal brand, owning and personalizing the brand story (YOUR story), you can weave a powerful narrative that ties all your passions together into a cohesive and compelling unit, building understanding and resonance.

A successful Personal Brand means that whatever it is you wish to project, that’s what your audience will perceive.

3. Holistic Problem-Solving

Another way of describing Renaissance high-achievers is “we are holistic”. This means that we can tackle any challenge/ problem from multiple angles, drawing from different areas of expertise, and providing solutions in a unique and innovative way. One of my Renaissance high-achiever clients, a fellow lawyer who was also passionate about marketing, recently found herself working for the fintech industry. She was initially hired for a position as “head of marketing”, but when the company found out she had a legal background they quickly started to rely on her for some much needed legal input (the fintech industry is new and much of the current legal instruments are simply not applicable). As a Renaissance high-achiever, she is uniquely positioned as someone who understands marketing, product development and Law and it did not take long for people to notice she was capable of providing solutions no one else could. Shortly after starting her job, she got promoted to the policy making area, working directly with the CEOs, and she is on track to make her first million now, under the age of 35.

This illustrates how this holistic perspective is what enables you to see the bigger picture and find creative ways to address complex issues. This is exactly your uniqueness, or your competitive edge, setting you apart from others who follow the conventional problem-solving approach.

Why it works

In a world where specialization often reigns supreme, Renaissance high-achievers stand out by embracing authenticity, intentional personal branding, and a holistic approach. By leveraging your diverse skills and interests, you can create a unique magnetic identity that appeals to your audience while staying true to your values.

In doing so, you can truly become standout brands, either as an entrepreneur, business owner, or in your career, leaving a lasting impact on your industry and the world at large.
